Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between accredited and awareness courses?

CHS runs accredited first aid training, which means it is nationally recognised and can be used to verify that you are a certified first aider. For example, as part of your work or volunteering. For this option, you will need to complete self-paced online learning prior to the practical training. If you do not have a need to be a certified first aider, you can participate in a first aid awareness training, where you gain a number of important skills but will not receive a nationally recognised certificate.

How do CHS' training prices compare to other training providers?

As a not-for-profit organisation, CHS strives to make first aid and CPR training as accessible to our community as possible. Our first aid awareness training does not cost and you will only be asked to pay $5 to secure your spot when signing up. Our nationally recognised first aid and CPR training is $110 and $59 per person respectively.

What will be covered in the courses?

Whether you attend a nationally recognised course or a first aid awareness training, the following topics will be covered:
- Dealing with an unconscious patient, defibrillator use and CPR
- Choking
- Asthma and Anaphylaxis
- Bleeding
- Fractures & Dislocations
- Bites, Stings & Envenomations
- Strokes

Can I cancel or change my booking if I can no longer attend?

Yes. Please get in contact with us by emailing team@chsnsw.org.au and we can reschedule or cancel your booking. Please allow at least 24 hours notice to ensure you receive a refund.
